A quick, plain-English glossary of the terms that come up when you buy game currency and codes with crypto. Bookmark it if any of the jargon on a product page is unfamiliar.
Currency & products
- Robux — the virtual currency of Roblox, used for items, passes and Premium.
- V-Bucks — the in-game currency of Fortnite, used for the Battle Pass and cosmetics.
- Gift card — a prepaid code that adds currency or store credit to an account.
- Store credit / wallet — funds on a platform account (PSN, Steam, Xbox, Nintendo) spent across its catalog.
- Game key — a digital code that activates a full game on your store account.
Buying & redeeming
- Redemption — entering a code on the platform's own site to add the currency, credit or game to your account.
- Region lock — a code only works on an account set to the same country; common on console cards.
- Denomination — the value of a card ($10, $25, 1,000 V-Bucks, and so on).
- Instant / made-to-order delivery — a code sent automatically the moment payment confirms.
Crypto payment
- Stablecoin — a coin pegged to the US dollar (USDT, USDC); low, stable fees.
- Network fee — the blockchain's charge to send crypto; varies by coin and congestion.
- Confirmation — the network verifying your transaction as final before a code is released.
- Partially paid — a payment that arrived below the total; no code releases until it's topped up or refunded.
